Wisdom Teeth Removal in Kew

Young man smilingFor nearly every adolescent or adult, there comes a time when their wisdom teeth need to be removed. Thankfully, we’re here to support you during this time and offer the comfortable, stress free treatment you deserve.

Your wisdom teeth (also known as third molars) are the final set of molars which are positioned in the very back of your mouth. Typically, they do not ‘erupt’ until the teen years-or even later. Due to the location of these teeth, they generally never have the proper room they need to erupt. Without their removal, this can lead to problems including:

  • Oral cysts
  • Decay and impactions
  • Damage to surrounding teeth like misalignment
  • Crowding and pressure
  • Pain and swelling
  • Infection
This is why having your wisdom teeth removed is often the best solution to protect your oral health.

The Removal Process

We’ll first make sure you’re a candidate for care by taking x-rays of your mouth and examining your third molars in person-this will allow us to see how they’re erupting and fully understand if the jaw and nerves are being affected around adjacent teeth.

If we deem you’re a good candidate for removal, we’ll book your next visit to begin the process. When you arrive, we’ll do everything we can to make you comfortable and relaxed. We’re happy to offer anaesthetic for your aided comfort.

FAQs

Will the treatment be painful?

We will use anaesthetic to numb the area -the choice is entirely up to you. Regardless, you won’t feel any pain during the procedure.

How long will the whole process take?

Because each patient is unique, this depends. For a complex case, it may take over an hour to remove the wisdom teeth. For something simple, we may be finished removing your teeth in a half hour. We’ll let you know our best estimate so there are no surprises.

Can I drive myself home after?

It will depend as treatment and recovery will vary. We recommend you call us to find out more about your treatment.

What should I do after the treatment?

We recommend resting and relaxing following your treatment, and eating only soft foods-please do not sip anything through a straw until your wounds have healed. When you need to chew, do so with the teeth toward the front of your mouth for the first week-we realize this may be uncomfortable, but it will help ensure your sockets heal nicely and without infection. You’ll be able to return to normal eating in no time.
